Mackenzie Hughes falls off his pedestal

Canadian Mackenzie Hughes was unable to stay atop the standings, settling for an under-par 69 record in the second round of the British Open on Friday at Club Royal St. George’s.

Hughes fell to 12th place because of his cumulative 135 (-5) and is six strokes behind the leader, the South African Louis Oosthuizen (65).

The maple leaf player wedged three birdies and committed two bogeys during his day.

American Collin Morikawa (64) is in second place with a delay of two strokes. His compatriot Jordan Spieth is third at 132 (-8), while another Canadian golfer, Corey Conners (68), is in a group in 17th place at 136 (-4).

Two other participants from the country for their part suffered the ax, namely Adam Hadwin (69) and Richard T. Lee (69), who both played four more strokes than the par of 70. Author of a disastrous record of 80 (+10) the day before, veteran Phil Mickelson (72) also saw his tournament end.
