Kaymer has to worry about a cut at the British Open

Dhe German top golfer Martin Kaymer (Mettmann) has to worry about the cut at the British Open. On the complicated par-70 course at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich / England, the 36-year-old played a 74 at the start and was thus in the back of the leaderboard. Kaymer got his only birdie on Thursday on hole six.

In the afternoon, the former British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen from South Africa was in the lead with six under par. Oosthuizen had won in St. Andrews in 2010. For Kaymer it is the twelfth participation, only in 2012 (Royal Lytham and St Annes) and at his last start in 2018 (Carnoustie) he missed the cut. In 2011 he finished twelfth at the Royal St. George’s.

Germany’s golf idol Bernhard Langer (Anhausen) has conflicting feelings when thinking about the course. “That’s where I achieved my best placements at the Open,” the 63-year-old told SID on the occasion of a Mercedes sponsorship appointment, but: “This is the most unfair of all British Open places.”
