Our OSP athlete Eduard Trippel won the first silver medal for the German team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The 24-year-old from the federal base in Cologne only had to admit defeat to Georgian Lasha Bekauri in the final in the weight class up to 90kg.

Below is the competition report of the German Judo Association:

Eduard Trippel stood after a bye against the Serb Nemanja Majdov from Serbia. He fought confidently against the 2017 world champion. In the third minute of the fight, there were only a few seconds missing for a grab hold to get a rating. 45 seconds before the end of the fight time then a waza-ari, which he skillfully defended until the end.

Eduard Trippel only needed 15 seconds for his second fight against the Korean Donghan Gwak. He managed the first attack and won with Ippon. In the quarterfinals he fought an equal fight with the Hungarian Krisztian Toth and had to get into the golden score. After 15 seconds, a foot throw and Eduard Trippel is in the semifinals.

In the semifinals against Michael Zgank from Turkey, Eduard Trippel starts in the first half minute with two approaches, which however do not lead to a valuation. The two fighters go to the golden score and after five minutes Trippel starts a seoi-nage, the Turk rolls on his shoulder and with that there is Waza-ari. Eduard Trippel is in the final of the Olympic Games and reaches for the Olympic victory.

In the final he fights against the Georgian Lasha Bekauri. In a strong fight, the Georgian throws a deep foot throw after one and a half minutes, for which he receives waza-ari, and continues with a hold technique. Trippel can come off after seven seconds. During the rest of the fighting time, the Georgian uses every opportunity to evade a fight in order to defend his score. He succeeds and thus Eduard Trippel becomes vice Olympic champion.

Congratulations, Eduard!
