Becker kept his humor and sank to his knees after a lost point. Begged, pleaded, folded his hands as if begging Stitch for mercy. He was kneeling on the other side of the net, shrugging his shoulders as if saying: Sorry, I’m too good for you today.

The picture was voted “Sports Photo of the Year”. Jochen Körner died on Friday at the age of 77.
