Isaiah Hartenstein of the Cleveland Cavaliers does not withdraw from the option and becomes a free agent

Isaiah Hartenstein let his player option expire and becomes a free agent on August 2nd. The 23-year-old last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This is reported by Shams Charania The Athletic. Hartenstein was traded to Cleveland by the Denver Nuggets in March and played 16 games for the Cavs. The German-American put on 8.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in an average of 18 minutes of play.

The player option would have brought Hartenstein around 1.8 million dollars for the coming season, now the center is becoming a restricted free agent. A stay in Cleveland is not ruled out, the Cavs can now offer Hartenstein the qualifying offer of 2.2 million dollars and then match any offer in the Free Agency for the Big Man.

Chris Fedor from cleveland.com also reports that it is also possible that the Cavs could offer Hartenstein a long-term contract. But that also depends on the rest of the Cavs offseason. With Jarrett Allen, the starter on the five also becomes a restricted free agent, and the Cavs hold the third pick with which they could draw the best center in the draft, Evan Mobley.

Sam Friend von Hoops Wire brought the Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks into play as potential buyers. Hartenstein was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 43rd pick in 2017, but was never able to prevail in Texas. In the NBA, Hartenstein was used 97 times and put on an average of 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds.
