Hamilton’s big shot in front of his home crowd at the British GP

This race will surely be talked about at the end of the season. On several occasions, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have dueled in the first laps of the races this season (Imola, Barcelona) but on Sunday, the rivalry between the two reached a new milestone. After a great start from the Briton, while the Dutchman started from pole, the Mercedes attacked Red Bull in every corner. Aggressive, Verstappen then defended his position as best he could until Copse. That super-fast turn, a long curve to the right, where Hamilton attacked Verstappen on the inside. The two cars then touched and that of the Batave went into the wall of tires at almost 300 km / h. A shock of incredible violence from which Max Verstappen happily emerged unharmed even if he is currently in hospital, for additional examinations.

A mad Hamilton race

The red flag then went out. The race was stopped with an unusual leader: Charles Leclerc. At that time, the Ferrari driver was leading the Grand Prix ahead of the Mercedes of Hamilton and Bottas. But the race changed again when the commissioners ruled that the seven-time world champion was at fault for this incident. Penalized by ten seconds, the Briton then went into attack mode behind the Monegasque, who suffered cuts to his engine. Full of composure, Leclerc nevertheless held the road. Leader for almost 50 laps, the Ferrari driver cracked three laps from the end against… Lewis Hamilton.

After his penalty and his stoppage on lap 27, the one who obtained his 99th victory in F1 on Sunday was fifth, more than fourteen seconds behind the leader. Not enough to scare him. At home in front of 140,000 people committed to his cause, Hamilton has gone into machine mode. He put together the fastest laps, swallowed Norris, gave Bottas a draft and reminded Charles Leclerc who was boss at Silverstone. And like a snub, Hamilton passed the Ferrari… to Copse, inside. As he had tried to face Verstappen. This time around, the maneuver worked and Hamilton was able to race to victory. The seventh success in the last eight races contested at Silverstone. The first since the Spanish Grand Prix.

Leclerc gave everything, Ocon in the points

Obviously, the shot is perfect for Hamilton and Mercedes. The seven-time world champion is eight points behind Verstappen in the drivers’ standings and the German brand is back on four units from Red Bull. We will also note the formidable race of Leclerc. The Monegasque cracked only three laps from the end despite problems with his engine. This bodes well for Ferrari, which is starting to show up, with Carlos Sainz’s sixth place finish as well. Finally, on the French side, Pierre Gasly finished close to points (11th) but Esteban Ocon returned to the top 10 with his ninth place, a first since Monaco. Good for confidence.
