Fortuna Düsseldorf versus SV Werder Bremen: 2: 3, 2nd matchday – 2nd Bundesliga – football

Bremen needed up to the 29th minute to broadcast a goal threat: After a combination via Maximilian Eggestein and Niklas Schmidt, Niclas Füllkrug had a chance to shoot, but Prib shot just before the goal line.

Backlog after Kastenmeier error

Even after that, the Werderans’ actions were not much more orderly, but they got support from their opponents. After a rather harmless long-range shot from Schmidt, goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier awkwardly fisted the ball at the feet of Josh Sargent, who scored the 1-0 with a dry low shot (39th).

The fortunes complained that Sargent had taken the upper hand to help with the ball acceptance. The suspicion could also be fully understood after the television pictures, but the hit withstood the review of the video referee.

Hennings with his third goal of the season

The guests for the second half should have realized with this lucky intermediate result that they had to defend the flanks better and stand closer to the opponents in the center. But that didn’t work: Just three minutes after the restart, Narey, completely neglected by Marco Friedl, had space to flank and Hennings acrobatically pushed the ball into the net in the middle – already his third goal after his double from the opening win in Sandhausen.

But even Düsseldorf did not get the defensive under control throughout. Schmid circled a corner kick caused by Fortuna without emergency on the second post, Kastenmeier wandered through his six-yard space and Zimmermann didn’t even jump up in the header duel with Sargent – the 1: 2 in the 64th minute.

Agu awards the preliminary decision

That was an effective hit. Bremen then acted more controlled, Fortuna often too hectic forward. Felix Agu had the preliminary decision on the foot of a counterattack in the 77th minute, but narrowly missed. In the 81st minute, the guests cheered again, but the goal from Sargent was not recognized after video evidence, because passer-by Yuya Osako had previously been marginally offside.

Up to the 94th minute Fortuna was hardly dangerous in final positions, but then a desperate ball from goalkeeper Kastenmeier slipped through to Narey, who hit the left corner from twelve meters.

Another comeback from Bremen

But Werder came back again and in an extremely unfortunate rescue operation Narey jumped the ball in his own penalty area, he also hit his opponent on the ankle – in the sixth minute of stoppage time, thanks to Eggestein’s penalty, Werder was back in front. The game ultimately ran into the 100th minute – but Bremen could not chase the three-point away despite an assault from Düsseldorf.

“That was a great game for the spectators. For us it is a breast loosener“, summarized Werder coach Markus Anfang. Toprak praised it “The last few minutes were a roller coaster of emotions. Great respect for Maxi Eggestein, who has been criticized so often lately. And then he goes there and hits him. Today it was better than the last game. That will be us push and give self-confidence. ”

Fortuna coach Christian Preusser was not completely dissatisfied: “We did a lot of things right. But of course we don’t want to get used to playing well and being without points.”

Fortuna will play for 1. FC Nürnberg on August 14th, Bremen will host SC Paderborn the next day.
