Formula 1 tests the “sprint” qualifications

STORY – Silvestorne GP presents a new qualifying format. For always more spectacle.

Formula 1 has always been a land of innovation. This weekend, during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the twenty drivers will experience a new qualifying format to determine the starting order for Sunday’s race. Exit the traditional one hour session on Saturday afternoon, divided into three stages (Q1, Q2, Q3). Well, not quite, since it is still present, but postponed to Friday afternoon and with a completely different goal. The order determined after this session will be used for the grid of the “sprint” race, the great novelty of Saturday afternoon.

This “sprint” format, new in F1, but already present for several years in promotional formulas, is a race of 100 kilometers, or 17 laps this Saturday on the British circuit. With such a short race (about half an hour), the teams will not have to go through the pits, unless they wish, and will be free to choose the type of tires. At the end, it’s the order of arrival
