Bitter day for Mick Schumacher. The Formula 1 newcomer was thrown off the track in free practice and his car was not ready in time for qualifying. At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton is right at the start.
Mith thirty times his own body weight, Mick Schumacher crashed into the tire wall. During the last free practice session before qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Haas driver experienced a violent takeoff. “I’m okay,” the 22-year-old radioed immediately to the command post of the US Haas team on Saturday. Schumacher’s Formula 1 car was severely damaged when it hit the tire wall. “I’m very sorry,” he said.
Even after the crash, team boss Günther Steiner announced to “Sky”: “I don’t think that qualifying will work for Mick.” He was proven right. The mechanics had two hours for the repair work before they were knocked out – but that was not enough.
Schumacher missed qualifying and has to start out of the pit lane on Sunday. Despite the best efforts of the Haas crew, the damaged car could not be repaired in time. To make matters worse, the gearbox also had to be replaced.
The car was hit first with the front and then also with the rear left side. His team tweeted that Schumacher had been brought to the Medial-Center for control and was released there after a short time. “Everything is okay. That is the most important message, ”wrote Haas.
Hamilton holt Pole
Lewis Hamilton secured the last pole position before the summer break and the 101st in his Formula 1 career. The seven-time world champion gave World Cup leader Max Verstappen no chance in qualifying. Hamilton was over four tenths of a second faster on the 4.381 kilometer Hungaroring. Valtteri Bottas also pushed himself in front of Red Bull driver Verstappen in the second Mercedes.
Hamilton has already won the race in the Puszta eight times. He is in second place in the World Cup, eight points behind Verstappen.
Sebastian Vettel will start the eleventh race of the season from position ten in the Aston Martin on Sunday (3 p.m. / Sky).
