Former FIS chairman Kasper has died at the age of 77

Former longtime chairman of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Swiss Gian Franco Kasper has died at the age of 77. The news of his death was announced today by the FIS, which appointed Kasper honorary chairman last month. He led the federation for 23 years.

Former FIS Secretary General Kasper was elected chairman in 1998 and led the organization until May this year, when he resigned for health reasons, although his term was due to expire next year. A month later, Johan Eliasch, a Swedish billionaire living in Britain, the current head of the Head ski company, was elected the new FIS chairman.

From 2000 to 2018, Kasper was a member of the International Olympic Committee, and also served on the executive of the world anti-doping organization WADA.
