First guidelines for the 2022 edition of the Federal Tournament

In the last hours the news for the next season of the third division was confirmed. Adjustment in the calendar, incorporation of qualifying stages and composition of the squads.

Although the decisive instances of the current tournament are still being disputed, in the last hours details were known of what will be the next edition of the national contest, which seeks to rearrange its calendar, expand geographic coverage and encourage an increase in the number of teams involved. In principle, it is necessary to highlight the important dates in the remainder of this edition. The current season is scheduled to end around August 10, barring any setbacks, and the respective free debt must be submitted on September 10.

For the next season, the estimated starting date will be January 10, 2022, establishing a parameter that is intended to be sustained from now on: that the tournament begins in the first month of the year. This allows the dispute of the respective Pre-Federal or Regional Tournaments around the entire country, which award places for each of the divisions. It is expected that they will be held from August to November of this year, so that the new promotions can be defined for the beginning of the next edition.

Depending on the region, they can be provincial or regional tournaments, that is, they bring together more than one provincial federation. The initiative will not only be maintained but will seek to deepen from now on, since for the 2023 season, no team will have their place in the tournament guaranteed, but all will have to go through their respective regional qualifying stages as of August 2022.

Considering that 68 teams participated in the current tournament, with the incorporation of several new institutions, and that many decided not to participate due to the health situation, the number of participants is expected to rise for the 2022 season.

Regarding the composition of the squads, what was announced at the beginning of the year will be maintained: there will be five places for older players, two U23, three U21 and the rest must be completed with U19 players. This also confirms the composition for the 2023 season, which had been announced at the beginning of the year: four majors, two U23 and four U21. The registration costs and other details may be consulted through the private channels of communication with the tournament.
