EredivisieThe transfer from Feyenoord captain Steven Berghuis to arch-rival Ajax has gone down the wrong way with many Rotterdam supporters. The Ultras of Feyenoord even threaten Berghuis with an unmistakable message on a banner. Feyenoord waives the threats.
“Feyenoord expressly distances itself from the very hurtful and threatening statements, such as the disgusting banner aimed at Steven Berghuis that is being circulated on social media, and calls for this to be stopped,” Feyenoord writes on Twitter.
A photo is circulating on social media showing a banner with check marks behind the names of ‘Polletje’ and Peter R. de Vries. ‘Polletje’ is Ajax supporter Martin van de Pol, who was shot dead in broad daylight this year. Peter R. de Vries died this week, after he was also shot in Amsterdam last week. The name of Steven Berghuis is also on the banner, but without a check mark.

Ajax, the arch-rival of Feyenoord, recently confirmed the arrival of Berghuis to Amsterdam. “I am 29 years old and it was known that I wanted to take another step. It is important that I want to further develop myself in a sporting way,” said the international about his switch. “When making the choice for my new club, in addition to my development as a football player, I was very much looking for the combination of playing for prizes, playing in the Champions League and staying in the picture with the Orange squad. At Ajax I think this all coincides.”
Berghuis also addressed the fans of Feyenoord this week, stating that he is proud of the fact that he has played 199 matches for Feyenoord.
