Since the arrival of trainer John van den Brom, Wouters had completely disappeared from the back of the vice champion last season. The Genk youth product therefore went looking for a solution itself this summer.
That solution now comes in the form of the recently relegated Schalke. At the tradition club they are therefore very pleased with the arrival of the midfielder, who can also play in defense.
“The transfer of Dries proves that we are still an attractive option in the second division for young players with a lot of potential,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.
“With his footballing ability, physical strength and strong character, Dries has everything to play a key role in our team. We are delighted that he will join our team.”
Wouters will play with the number 15 at his new club.
