Cso a hundred Madrid students will enjoy between July 5 and 30 of the ‘Summer Campus Tennis Health 2021’. Every week in July, a group of 24 students divided by levels – beginners, beginners and intermediate – will have the opportunity to learn and develop their tennis skills.

The students, between 10 and 12 years old, have been selected from a total of 47 educational centers in Madrid in strict order of arrival of the applications. Campus activities will be held at the Puerta del Hierro Sports Park from Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. During these 5 days, the participants will become familiar with the elements of the game, learn the basic strokes and play matches adapted to their age and level of play. In addition, these activities will be complemented with swimming classes and aquatic activities. The entire campus will take place outdoors and respecting all Covid-19 security protocols.

The objective of the campus is for the participants to assimilate the values associated with tennis and become aware of the importance of playing sports and adopting healthy life habits. This was confirmed by Albert Costa, current director of the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals at the inauguration of the campus. Albert, who as a player achieved the title of Roland Garros and was a Davis Cup champion, shared this first day of the campus with the students and wanted to encourage them to continue practicing tennis, especially during the summer:

“Summer is an ideal time to get in touch with the world of sport and also the campuses allow us to do so with a clear agenda that helps in promoting the acquisition of routines. Beyond what they can learn about tennis, we firmly believe that the Tennis Health campuses will contribute to awakening in all these young people concerns that will help them in the future. They are also an ideal place to share experiences with other boys and girls of their age “.

Also attending the inauguration was Virginia Blzquez, Deputy Director General of the Community of Madrid’s Physical Activity and Sports Program, who wanted to highlight the capital’s commitment to tennis at all levels: “The Community of Madrid supports no only that macro event that are the Davis Cup Finals, but we are also interested in leaving a legacy at the grassroots level with schools, municipalities, etc. “

The proposal is part of the legacy that the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals and the Community of Madrid want to leave in the children of the region, which already in its previous edition – in 2019 – reached more than 4,000 young people. The educational program is funded by the Community of Madrid and has the support of the Madrid City Council and the Madrid Tennis Federation. The program is directly coordinated by Kosmos Tennis, organizer of the Davis Cup Finals.
