In 2004 Fordham won the British Darts Organization (BDO) world title. He also won the BDO World Masters in 1999 and reached the semi-finals of the World Championship four more times. When he won the World Cup in 2004, he allegedly had 24 bottles of beer and a bottle of brandy. Alcohol was apparently the main reason for his obesity in some phases of his life.

Fordham suffered from numerous health problems, in particular back, groin and liver diseases troubled him. Last year he also had to undergo bowel surgery.
