Carlos Alcaraz is one of the six Spaniards who will start this week at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag, which will take place from July 19 to 25. The 18-year-old young man from Murcia joins Albert Ramos Viñolas, Carlos Taberner, Jaume Munar, Pedro Martínez and Bernabé Zapata.

“I’m really looking forward to playing here,” said No. 72 in the FedEx ATP Rankings, who will start as the seventh seed on Croatian clay. “I am very happy to be able to play at Umag, I feel very good, playing very well and I feel well prepared for this tournament.”

In his first season on the ATP Tour, he continues to take steps in his evolution. It will be the first time that I was seeded in a year in which he has managed to break into the Top 100, win his first match in a Grand Slam, also in an ATP Masters 1000 or reach the semi-finals (Marbella).

Alcaraz lands in Umag, after signing the third round at Roland Garros after passing the qualifying phase and will remain in the second round at Wimbledon. “I am playing at a good level. I am very happy with the way I am growing. Right now, the best thing I do is have a good attitude. I am playing at the same level in the important moments ”.

And it is that the Spanish feels that the ascending line continues to aim high. In this sense, he indicates that his great progression in 2021 lies in “managing difficulties and nerves in difficult moments in the game. Both at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, as well as in everything I have played this year, I have been improving little by little. There is much to improve, but I have it much better ”.

Its premiere is already set. In the first round he will have to face the French Lucas Pouille. “He is a great player, I have seen him play a lot. It’s going to be a very cool game to enjoy and learn a lot, ”Alcaraz closed before opening at Umag.
