New type of player in the Hertha storm: Jovetić follows Córdoba

Hertha BSC have signed striker Stevan Jovetić. The 31-year-old Montenegrin was most recently under contract with AS Monaco. He had previously played for Sevilla FC, Inter Milan, Manchester City and Fiorentina, among others. His contract in Monaco expired at the end of the preseason and is free of charge. At Hertha, Jovetić will sign a contract until 2023 plus an option, the Berlin Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.

“I can hardly wait to get started right away and I want to use my experience right from the start to help the team achieve their goals,” Jovetić was quoted as saying in a club statement. “With Stevan we get a classic center player for the offensive, who brings a lot of experience from the top leagues in Europe,” said Fredi Bobic, sports director at Hertha BSC.

In the storm of Berlin, a place had recently become free after the Russian first division club FK Krasnodar signed center forward Jhon Córdoba from Hertha. Compared to the Colombian, the 1.83-meter-tall Jovetić is a little less robust and has a strong header, but can also be used behind the front due to his skills in passing and dribbling. With Davie Selke and Krzysztof Piątek, there are still two clear strikers in the Hertha BSC squad.

Permission from PSV: Malen trains with Dortmund

The move from Donyell Malen to Borussia Dortmund seems almost perfect. On Tuesday morning, the Dutch international from PSV Eindhoven took part in the Bundesliga team’s training for the first time in Bad Ragaz. The 22-year-old is set to close the gap left by Jadon Sancho with his € 85 million transfer to Manchester United.

According to reports, the cup winner pays almost 30 million euros plus possible bonus payments for painting. It should be a five-year contract.

However, Borussia has not yet officially confirmed the change. “There is an official training permit from PSV. There are still final details to be clarified between the player and Eindhoven, only after that we can finally announce the transfer, ”said the club via Twitter. Malen had arrived at the Borussia training camp in Switzerland on Sunday and had completed the medical check and the mandatory corona tests there.

The fast attacker comes with the recommendation of 27 goals this season and ten assists in 45 competitive games for Eindhoven. The position he prefers in the attack center is, however, assigned to Erling Haaland at BVB. Therefore, Malen will probably have to resort to the wings. It would also be possible to serve as a second tip next to Haaland.
