British sprint topper in tears after injury: “I worked for 2 years for this” | Olympics

Dina Asher-Smith still ran a strong time of 11:05 with that injury. She finished third in her semifinal and that was not good enough for a place in the final. Not surprising, since the vice world champion is struggling with an injury. The British also misses the 200 meters.

“I am very disappointed not to have made it to the final because this is Tokyo,” she told the BBC in tears. “It’s everything I’ve trained for for the past 2 years.”

“After I pulled my hamstring, I was told it was a tear and that I would have to have surgery. I would be out for 3 to 4 months.”

“But then I was told it was a wrong diagnosis. It turned out not to be a tear, because my hamstring was still stuck. We then did everything we could to be able to be at the Games.”

Asher-Smith was a big candidate on medal in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. In the 200 meters she is even the reigning world champion.
