British leader Luke Nelson (1.90m, 26) arrives at Portel from Göttingen in Germany.
Luke Nelson had previously passed through Gran Canaria, Sevilla, Manresa and Göttingen where he shot 11.9 points and 4.5 assists. In the qualifying matches for EuroBasket 2022, he emerged as the best passer (4.3) and 2nd scorer (14.0 points) of his team.
“I am very happy with the signing of Luke Nelson with us,” commented coach Serge Crevecoeur. “He is a player that we identified with the staff as one of our priorities. He was part of our top 3 with Eric and Arnaud. Luke has extensive international experience with England and notably had a very good game against France and excellent games against Germany. He started his career in Spain, in a country with a strong basketball IQ, so he is smart in playing the game and especially in pick’n’roll. Luke has a real collective spirit and I am sure he will appeal to the public. Once again, he is a player who fully corresponds to the values of the Portel. He is at the same time scorer, collective and organizer. This is really the profile we were looking for and it will be very complementary with Benoit Mangin and Mehdy Ngouama. ”
