PITTSBURGH – Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich has tested positive for COVID-19. The symptoms he is experiencing are mild.
His name was placed on the coronavirus-related list, like that of Jace Peterson, a reservist.
Peterson is on the sidelines in connection with contact tracing, the team’s president of baseball operations David Stearns said.
Yelich was vaccinated at the start of the season, like several teammates. He will miss at least 10 days from the date of the positive test. Peterson will be out for at least a week.
“The most important thing is for Christian to do the best,” said Stearns. He has mild symptoms, but is in good shape. He takes rest. We hope he will feel better soon. “
The Brewers removed veteran outfielder Lorenzo Cain from the injured list and recalled Nashville branch AAA infielder Pablo Reyes.
Yelich is having a disappointing second straight season, averaging .235 with six homers, 28 RBIs and seven goal steals.
He was named the National League MVP in 2018 and finished second in the poll in 2019.
