Brazil achieves bronze medal in women’s tennis doubles at Tokyo-2020

Brazilian tennis players Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani won the bronze medal in the Tokyo 2020 women’s doubles tournament after defeating the Russians Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kedermetova in an agonizing match, this Saturday in Tokyo.

The South Americans lifted four match balls in the ‘super tie break’ to end up winning the duel 4-6, 6-4 and 11-9, in two hours and a quarter of the game.

It is the first Olympic medal that Brazil has achieved in this sport.

The Brazilians started the game with many problems with service, losing Stefani’s first and having to lift four balls to avoid the 4-0 inning.

But as the match progressed, they got in tune and managed to equalize the set, but ended up losing it in the 10th game, with another ‘break’ to Stefani.

The Brazilians continued to improve in the second set and after making the entry break, they comfortably maintained the serve to take the match to the ‘super tie break’ and decide the medal for the best at 10 points.

The decisive game was a summary of the match: the Russians started better and got to enjoy four match points (9-5), but the Brazilians came back to seal their presence on the podium.
