Boston Celtics send Tristan Thompson to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade with Atlanta

The Boston Celtics keep tinkering with their roster. In a three-team trade with the Atlanta Hawks and the Sacramento Kings, the Celtics shipped Tristan Thompson to California and received Guard Kris Dunn in return.

Thompson was traded for the first time in his ten-year NBA career. The center played for the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first nine years before joining the Boston Celtics in the 2020 offseason. Now the Celtics traded Thompson to Sacramento after he pulled his $ 9.7 million player option.

In return, the Kings gave up Delon Wright to the Atlanta Hawks, the Guard cashed 8.5 million in his last year of contract. Atlanta, on the other hand, sent the contracts of Kris Dunn (5 million) and Bruno Fernando (1.8 million), which also expired in 2022, to Boston, saving them around $ 3 million.

Shortly thereafter, the Celtics threaded another deal with Dallas that brought them shooting guard Josh Richardson. The Celtics have 13 players with guaranteed contracts for the coming season and are around $ 5 million below the luxury tax limit.

This could change soon, however, should the Celtics be interested in a continued employment of Evan Fournier. The Frenchman, who came from Orlando via Trade in March, is a free agent and is likely to demand around $ 20 million a year.

The Celtics have already carried out three trades under the new regime around ex-coach Brad Stevens. A good month ago, Boston All-Star Guard Kemba Walker had given Al Horford and Moses Brown to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
