Chelsea FC should be ready to pay around 175 million euros for Erling Haaland

Chelsea FC builds psychological pressure. A fabulous offer is circulating in the English media that the Champions League winner wants to submit to BVB for goal scorer Erling Haaland. Dortmund is now trying to dispel the doubts.
Michael Zorc is now taking on the ongoing speculation with a good dose of sarcasm. “Erling Haaland?”, The BVB sports director had explained to the journalists waiting at the Dortmund training ground with a broad grin: “He’s already in England.”
That was of course not true: the Norwegian striker landed back in Dortmund on Sunday after his vacation – he has been back in training since Tuesday. As a proof, BVB posted a photo on Wednesday: Haaland was standing on the edge of the training field with his hair gelled back and his thumbs raised. Caption: “Back in town” – back in town.
A lot has changed for BVB – but the firm intention of the club officials to go into the coming season with Haaland will not change. “We are planning firmly with Erling,” affirmed Zorc. However, he did not comment on speculations. This also means that Chelsea are apparently trying everything to wear down Dortmund – in the hope that BVB could reconsider letting the object of desire go in summer 2022 at the earliest. The Champions League winner would be willing to pay 175 million euros for the 20-year-old – if he came now. So it is said.
Haaland as a guarantor to make Rose’s start easier
This would be around 100 million euros more than if Dortmund’s Haaland would only let go next summer, if a corresponding exit clause in his contract, which is still running in 2024, would apply for the first time. For the receiving club, however, it should only be worthwhile to a limited extent to wait that long: After all, it can be assumed that a not inconsiderable part of the difference would then flow into the pockets of the player and his advisors.
But BVB will have the reins of action for at least another year. At the moment, no thought is wasted on a premature separation – after all, Haaland, who scored 27 goals in 28 games in the last Bundesliga season, is a guarantee that the future can start well under the new coach Marco Rose.
In addition, with Jadon Sancho (21), who moved to Manchester United for 85 million euros, a top-class attacking player has already left the club. This departure had been evident for a long time. The Englishman was already willing to change last summer, this time the request could no longer be refused.
The income for Sancho is to be partially reinvested: The Dutch international Donyell Malen (22) from PSV Eindhoven is to come. While agreement has largely been reached with the player, there is still a need to talk about the transfer – but it should probably level off at just under 30 million euros.
Rose, who had been informed a long time ago that Sancho would very likely leave, had already spoken out in favor of an alternative at his official presentation in Dortmund. “If you lose Jadon Sancho, then we have to look around for a winger with speed who can go one-on-one. That is definitely a position where we still want to do something, ”the 44-year-old explained.
BVB goalkeeper Bürki looking for a club
Rose was also privy to the commitment of the new goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who had come from VfB Stuttgart for 15 million euros. This also clarifies the ranking in the goal. “Gregor has to go to the sporting competition. The performance principle applies, ”Rose had explained. But it is clear that BVB will start the season as number one with the 23-year-old.
The Dortmunders are planning long-term with him. Kobel has signed a contract until 2026. Marwin Hitz, who guarded the goal in the second half of the season, will step back into the second tier. Roman Bürki, the long-time number one, is currently looking for a new club, which is proving to be difficult.
This also applies to two other BVB professionals. Marius Wolf (26) and Nico Schulz (28) are unlikely to have any prospects, but are still tied for the long term. Midfielder Wolf, who was last loaned to 1.FC Cologne, is under contract until 2023, left-back Schulz is even one year longer. It is therefore quite possible that there will be loans.
On Tuesday evening, BVB then completed the first test under Rose. The team won, still without Haaland and the European Championship participants, 2-0 (2-0) at the south-west regional division FC Giessen. Next Saturday, Dortmund will take part in a blitz tournament with VfL Bochum and MSV Duisburg. On July 23, I will go to the training camp in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland.
