Braunschweig. The Basketball Löwen Braunschweig have signed a player who was high on their wish-list: the 24-year-old David Krämer comes from the German runner-up FC Bayern Basketball, in which he played in 18 BBL and six Euroleague games last season Parquet stood. The German-Austrian Guard receives a two-year contract with the Löwen. The Basketball Lions report in a press release.

“We wanted to guide David to us during the last 2020/21 season. However, at that time he decided for FC Bayern. Of course, we are all the happier that it has now worked. I was still standing with David in the ProB for the Ulm substructure and not only because of this I know that he is an incredibly athletic and talented player with a lot of development potential and physique. David fits perfectly into our concept and will have a big role with us with a lot of responsibility, ”said Löwen managing director and sports director Nils Mittmann, pleased about the new addition.

Visa problems prevented moving to the USA

The first half of 2021 was originally planned a little differently. Actually, David Krämer should have played for the Austin Spurs in the NBA G-League bubble from February, but visa problems thwarted his plans. So he switched to FC Bayern Basketball, where he played a total of 24 games for the top team. These included six games in the Euroleague, in which Krämer showed his best performance in this tough competition with six points against Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. In the BBL, the 1.98 meter tall guard was deployed 18 times for the Munich team in an average of just under eleven minutes (2.6 pps).

In the previous season, David Krämer’s NBA dream seemed to come true for a short time. The 24-year-old competed for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Summer League in summer 2020 and drew attention to himself with a very decent eight points on average. The Suns then gave him a contract for the training camp, in which David Krämer could not recommend himself due to an injury. As a result, there was no engagement with the NBA team, but the Guard joined its farm team Northern Arizona Suns in the G-League. Here he scored 8.2 points in just over 14 minutes of average playing time and also collected 3.1 rebounds per game.

More match practice again

These figures also make it clear the great potential that the new addition to the Löwen intends to further exploit. “Braunschweig gives me the opportunity to play more again and develop myself further. I also know Nils Mittmann and coach Jesús Ramírez and therefore have a good feeling about my decision. I am very much looking forward to being part of the Löwen organization in the future and can hardly wait to get started again, ”said David Krämer, who was on the floor for ratiopharm ulm until 2019 before his engagement in the G-League. There he was used in four seasons in 90 BBL games and also in 35 EuroCup games. In addition, David Krämer ran for the Ulm farm team and celebrated the ProB championship title with the Weißenhorn Youngstars (now OrangeAcademy) in 2016/17 as “Youngster of the Year”.

After the following year with strong personal performances in the ProA (2017/18: 16.9 pp and 4.7 rps) and growing proportions of the game in the BBL team, David Krämer was nominated for the German senior national team for the first time in December 2018. The Guard, who was born in Myjava, Slovakia, has been deployed once for this (2018 vs. Estonia), while he has participated in a total of two European championships (2015 and 2017) for the German U18 and U20 national teams. At the U20 European Championship, David Krämer, whose father Roman Krämer played for SG Braunschweig in the Bundesliga in the 1995/96 season, became the second best point collector in the DBB selection with 12.3 points per game.
