At the weekend, the autocross season will be opened on the Pilskalni highway – Motor sports – Car

Traditionally, the competition on the Jēkabpils side takes place for two days, and this year both autocross and folk cruisers will gather on the track. Tomorrow, on July 17, 74 representatives of the Folk Racing and Cross Country Cup will compete on the track, but on Sunday, July 18, 84 autocross riders will continue fighting.

In this autocross season, great emphasis is placed on the growth of young athletes, so that in the near or distant future young motorists will be seen not only in the competition of Latvian motorsport competitions, but also outside the country. The test class for the youngest autocross riders is the Mini Buggies, which is the first step before the start in the highest buggy class or cabin test. The 2021 season will be opened with 14 representatives of this class, Latvian athletes, as well as competitors from Lithuania. Four athletes are preparing for their debut in their first competition: Emīlija Ūtēna, Kristers Eglītis, Jēkabs Linde and Markuss Žvagins and Klāvs Žvagins.

“We are glad that we can finally start the autocross season! It’s been a long time, we’ve spent two pre-season training days, the athletes have checked their and their cars’ readiness and now it’s time for a big outcome. The fights will definitely be visible and exciting for both the athletes and the spectators, because the number of participants will create a noticeable tension in the curves of the track, “says Arnis Odiņš, LAF Cross Commission autocross discipline leader, author and leader of AX Latvia idea.

The competition will also host autocross fans, the organizer has implemented a level of semi-safe event so that everyone can attend the motorsport event – vaccinated or sick Covid-19, as well as fans who test negative for Covid-19. It will also be possible to take the test at the competition venue free of charge, but the organizer invites you to schedule a timely arrival on the track, from 09:00 to 12:00 (both days of the competition), because it will not be possible to perform tests outside the specified time.
