After three seasons in the United States alternating between NBA and G-League, French leader Elie Okobo is turning back to sign for ASVEL. The player drafted in 2018 in the second round by the Phoenix Suns signed up for Tony Parker’s team this Friday. A good destination with a high level to try to relaunch a very complicated start to a career on the other side of the Pacific.

Three short seasons and then go, it’s time to return to his native lands for Elie Okobo who has therefore signed with ASVEL in Betclic Elite, which is none other than the new naming of the former Jeep Elite. The playmaker who was struggling to make his hole in the United States, he who oscillated between NBA and G-League has finally decided to go home and this to the delight of Rhone fans.

For Tony Parker, club president, it’s a very good move and it had been a priori already a while that they kept an eye on the former player of the Suns and the Nets. If he is still young, he will however be able to bring his scoring and his vision of the game in a role where he will certainly be given more responsibilities.

“He’s a player we’ve followed for many years, whose game has always appealed to us. ” Parker said. “Seeing him leave the United States and choose our club to return to France is a strong new sign, that our project makes sense and speaks to French players who want to be involved! “

Trained in Bordeaux first and then after a stint at Pau Lacq-Orthez, Okobo had tried his luck in the NBA where he was drafted in 31st position by Phoenix in 2018. However, he was not retained at the end of the ‘2020 offseason and joined the Nets G-League squad.

The player will therefore try to relaunch his career in Betclic Elite as well as in the Euroleague and we hope to see him shine brightly in his new team. He will therefore play alongside Matthew Strazel, Antoine Diot and Norris Cole on the back lines of the Rhone club.

In his best season at the Suns, Elie Okobo compiled 5.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in an average of 18 minutes.
