American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson tested positive for marijuana in Tokyo Olympics selections, from which she could be sidelined, The New York Times reported on Thursday (July 1). Richardson, 21, won the 100m final at the US selections in June in Oregon, securing his ticket to the Tokyo Olympics. In April, she became the sixth-fastest woman in the world over the distance, clocking 10.72 seconds at a meeting in Florida. Marijuana is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances, and a positive result can lead to a ban from competing for one month to two years.
