Abimelec Ortiz is determined to reach the Major Leagues

Dorado. The player Abimelec Ortiz He remained positive as the rounds of the last Major League Baseball (MLB) draw progressed and his name was not mentioned.

After three days, the process concluded and none of the 30 organizations claimed Ortiz, a native of the Mameyal neighborhood in Dorado. However, the management of The Texas Rangers presented him with a free agent offer which he promptly accepted..

“It is a good opportunity, a good contract. It seemed like an excellent opportunity for me and my family.”Shared Ortiz, who maintained that he can defend both the rangers and the initial.

Ortiz is determined to prove that the remaining 29 teams made a mistake by letting him pass in the draw.

“Many of the listeners in (the state of) Florida recognize the talent that I have and told me that they did not understand how this could happen because they knew that their respective organizations could choose me. They were shocked. They could have chosen me between rounds seven, eight, new or 10, but unfortunately it did not happen, “he said.

As a player in free agency, like those who were chosen in the draft, we have the same opportunities. Talent is not measured by money, but by the quality of player that one is”Added Ortiz.

The young man will not have much time to celebrate his signing with the Rangers. On July 21 he will travel to the Dominican Republic to participate in a league that Ortiz himself classifies as superior to the one he would see in the ‘rookie’ in Arizona.

“There I will be demonstrating my skills. Everyone knows that my forte is hitting. I have the talent and the strength. In fact, by 2020 he was the strongest player in Puerto Rico, but due to COVID-19 he was not chosen last year since from 40 rounds they dropped to five. I am a power hitter. That’s my specialty”, He indicated.

Ortiz trained under the tutelage of former Major League Baseball player Carlos Delgado.

“Many people have compared me to him. While I was practicing with him, he would tell me that our (hitting) zones are the same. That we love the short ball and outside. He (Delgado) compared himself to me. Others compared me to David Ortiz because he’s left-handed and he’s a power hitter, ”he shared.

Ortiz is aware that there is still a long way to go.

“From my position there will be 10 or 15 players who are the same or maybe even better than one. Now the work will be double. Signing is an achievement of youth, but reaching the majors is an achievement of adult. The competition that I will face will be great and I have to let myself be carried away by the advice that Carlos gave me in the park ”, he concluded.
