One way or another, Aaron Rodgers has said that he will make a decision about his future with the Green Bay Packers in a couple of weeks.

In the past week, Rodgers has been improving his golf skills between his victory with Bryson DeChambreau over Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson in The Match last Tuesday, and his ongoing participation in the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe. But it was inevitable that he would address the taboo subject of his future in the NFL during the tournament.

After all, his situation with the Packers is one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the NFL with only a few weeks to go before training begins.

The current league MVP did not leave fans anxious to know if he will return to Green Bay in 2021, but Rodgers said he will focus on his priorities later this week.

“I’m going to enjoy this week to the fullest,” Rodgers said Saturday in Lake Tahoe, “and then I’ll go back to training and decide what to do in a couple of weeks.”

Rodgers is turning heads in Tahoe

During the offseason there has been a lot of questioning and speculation about Rodgers since ESPN’s Adam Schefter published a report about his fight with the Packers, but none made reference to the physical ability of the 37-year-old quarterback. He has just had one of his best seasons as a player and seems able to continue playing past 40 years thanks to how he has taken care of his body.

But let’s be honest: It’s entertaining to watch Rodgers on a Lake Tahoe golf course throw a fantastic pass to a stranger on a speedboat.

When a player misses all training sessions during the offseason it raises questions about his physical condition before starting final training, but Rodgers has always been against spring training. He questioned them during collective bargaining agreements last year and appreciated the freedom players had during the 2020 offseason as almost everything was done virtually due to the pandemic.

Rodgers took advantage of that free time and ended up translating it into one of his best seasons in years, so it can be said that the problems he has with the team have not affected him in training. Whether the Packers can witness that or not will have to wait “a couple of weeks.”

Rodgers could miss training

Optimists would take Rodgers’ smiles on the golf course and his sayings that he’s thinking about what he’s going to do as a sign that he will continue to lead the Packers. The facts still support that assumption, as Rodgers is still under contract for three more years and would risk paying hefty fines if he did not show up for training that begins July 28.

But there are other possibilities that could be a bit more dramatic.

If Rodgers is considering not returning to Green Bay, then retiring could be an option for him to avoid stiff penalties for missing training and missing the team during the regular season. It would have to return 11.5 million dollars if it remains withdrawn for all of 2021, But for all its worth, Rodgers may consider this a legitimate negotiating tactic.

You may be absent for the first few training sessions, although a few. It would give him more time to work out the details of a possible new deal with the Packers. At the same time it would allow the Packers to put Jordan Love to the test as the starting quarterback. Rodgers may not want to continue to face potential fines – missing training leads to mandatory fines – but it seems that money is not a relevant factor in this situation.
