A member of the Czech expedition had a positive test for coronavirus after arriving in Tokyo

An unnamed member of the implementation team of the Czech team had a positive test for covid-19 after arriving at the venue of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Czech Olympic Committee announced this in a press release. One of the passengers of Friday’s charter flight from Prague had a positive test.

The result of the antigenic control test at the airport was also confirmed by subsequent PCR analysis. “Unfortunately, despite all the measures that currently belong, we did not avoid this situation. In any case, all the other members of the team had negative tests and all the athletes are fine in the Olympic Village,” said the head of the team, Martin Doktor.

A member of the team with a positive finding is currently in isolation, as well as several possible close contacts from the plane. “How now everything will continue in their case, we are intensively dealing with it,” said Doktor, who is also the sports director of the WWTP.

Team boss Jiří Neumann added that the infected Czech has no symptoms of the disease. “Before the trip, he passed two mandatory PCR tests within 96 hours before departure with a negative result, which are a condition of entry into Japan, even in two different laboratories. The values of the PCR test also correspond to the asymptomatic disease,” said Neumann.

Immediately upon suspicion, the expedition’s staff began to prepare preventive measures. “Within two hours, we managed the ball lightning event and we prepared individual rooms for all athletes and members of the flight attendants who arrived in the village. We will add special air purifiers to the common areas in the apartments,” the Doctor described.

According to him, training activities and plans of athletes are not limited. “In addition to the current rules against the spread of the disease, we will add small regime measures. We simply want to be sure that we are doing everything for the safety of the team,” said the Doctor.

The organizers announced this morning that the first case of coronavirus infection had been detected in the Olympic Village in Tokyo. The director of the organizing committee, Toširó Muto, stated that he was a person from abroad who was involved in the organization of the games. He did not want to disclose nationality or other personal information for privacy reasons, according to Reuters.
