As we told you months ago, with this year’s edition, the franchise of MLB The Show It is no longer exclusive to PlayStation and is now available on Xbox. In other words, it is the first game developed by Sony studios to come to Xbox and to make it happen, Microsoft had to rely heavily on Sony.

Microsoft for the first time had to give Sony premature versions of its consoles. Taking into account that MLB The Show 21 premiered this year, the dev kits were from pre-release Xbox Series X | S consoles, as revealed by Sarah Bond, head of experience and ecosystem of game creators at Xbox, to Axios (via Video Games Chronicle).
This is extremely important, as this probably even happened before the existence of the Xbox Series S (September 2020) or even the Xbox Series X (December 2019) was revealed. For this reason, Bond says that “it was a true, true gesture of confidence in the industry.”
Microsoft wanted to license MLB The Show
Another interesting detail that Bond revealed in the interview is that Microsoft had tried for several years to obtain the license of MLB The Show 21 until he finally made it for the 2021 edition.
“The Show always came to mind. We always said, ‘We love this game. Bringing it to Xbox would be a huge opportunity, ‘”Bond commented, which was what they thought when they were developing in the other MLB franchise, RBI Baseball.
Xbox in the end not only succeeded, but also offered the game on Xbox Game Pass and apparently the move paid off, as Xbox already confirmed that during its premiere week MLB The Show 21 It was the best Xbox sports game of last year and the second Xbox sports game in history.
