WTA> Kiki Bertens to retire at the end of the season

It’s a little surprise in the world of tennis and the WTA. Kiki Bertens, current 20e world player and former 4e in 2019, announced via her Instagram account that she would end her professional career at the end of this 2021 season. Injured for many months in the Achilles tendon and returned in March where she played seven games since (two victories), the Dutchwoman does not feel any more attack to continue a trying career at only 29 years old.

“Hi everyone, I want to share with all of you that I have decided this year will be the last season of my tennis career. I have always demanded the most of myself, but the tank is empty. The balance between the hard work I put in day in and day out and the satisfaction I get from it at the end of the day is no longer there. Plus, I’m more than ready for the next chapter. The next upcoming tournaments are Eastbourne, Wimbledon and the Olympics. We will decide afterwards if my body recovers enough to play the rest of the season. I will do everything I can to end my career in the best possible way ”, wrote the one who still won 10 career titles for 15 finals.
