France will win its second medal this Friday at the world judo championships in Budapest, thanks to Madeleine Malonga, finalist in -78kg. Alexandre Iddir and Cyrille Maret failed in -100kg.

The French judo team has only one medal on the clock (the gold one from Clarisse Agbegnenou in the -63kg category) after five days of competition at the world championships in Budapest, but the day of Friday will allow him to glean a second, thanks to Madeleine Malonga, the 2019 world champion and 2018 and 2020 European champion of -78kg, Madeleine Malonga, who qualified for the final. The 27-year-old judokate, exempted from the first round, had a somewhat delicate entry, winning “only” thanks to a waza-ari against the Croatian Karla Prodan. But in the quarter-finals against the Ukrainian Anastasiya Turchyn, it took only 39 seconds to put her opponent ippon. In the semi-finals, against the Dutch Guusje Steenhuis, world No. 6 and three-time vice-champion in Europe, against whom she had lost three times out of four, Malonga still managed an ippon, in 1’52. In the final, the Frenchwoman will be opposed to the German Anna Maria Wagner, world n ° 3 and European bronze medalist in 2018, whom she has already beaten three times out of four and in particular during the world championships in 2018. For a news Marseillaise?

Iddir and Maret remain at the quay

On the men’s side, -100kg were on the day’s program, but France will not win a medal thanks to this category, Alexandre Iddir having been eliminated in his first repechage fight, to finish seventh in the competition. The 30-year-old judoka, third in the last European Championships in April, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Dutchman Michael Korrel, bronze medalist of the 2019 Worlds, who put him ippon in the golden score. Previously, the French had won his first two fights, against Montenegrin Danilo Pantic and Serbian Bojan Dosen, as their opponents had received a third penalty, synonymous with defeat, during the golden score. Iddir faced for his first draft match the Georgian Ilia Sulamanidze, 31st in the world, whom he beat in the last Euro. But the Frenchman was put ippon after 2’16, once again leaving the French men’s delegation fanny. The competition was quickly over for Cyrille Maret, who received a third golden score penalty against South Korean Jonghoon Won, eliminated in the next round, which will not allow the French to compete in the repechage. On Saturday, the heaviest categories will be on the program, with Léa Fontaine and Julia Tolofua competing in + 78kg. In the absence of Teddy Riner, who prefers training to competition before the Olympics, no French will compete.
