At the end of a twisty end of the match, Serbia qualified for the semi-final of the Women’s EuroBasket by beating Spain after extra time (71-64). The Serbs will face the Belgians on Saturday for a place in the final.
In front of its audience, Spain fell. A few hours after the Blue victory against Bosnia in the quarter-finals, the other host of the competition left by the back door. Serbia played its game at the end of a bitter and disputed fight. The Spaniards however had the free throw of the win 1.5 seconds from the end of regulation time but Cristina Ouvina did not convert her second attempt (62-62).
La Roja never recovered and abdicated in overtime against Sonja Vasic (19 points, 9 rebounds), Nevena Jovanovic (15 points, 10 rebounds) and co to finally lose 7 units (71-64). Astou Ndour was not as domineering as usual (12 points, 8 rebounds, -15 +/-). The supporters, who had come in large numbers to Valencia, returned home frustrated.

Belgium eliminates Russia
A few minutes earlier, Belgium had resisted the return of Russia to Rhénus de Strasbourg (85-83). Emma Meesseman delivered a monstrous performance (33 points at 16/25 on shots, 11 rebounds, 4 assists for 40 evaluation in 37 minutes) but it was Julie Allemand (9 points, 6 assists) who scored the basket of victory. Maria Vadeeva (30 points at 13/17 on shots, 7 rebounds, 5 rebounds) held up well but the Russians left the competition after a promising run for years to come.
Belgium will therefore face Serbia in the last four of the competition. On the other side of the table, the French team will challenge Belarus, winner of Sweden in the quarter-finals (58-46). The four winning teams in their respective groups will therefore meet in the semi-finals on Saturday.
