Someone who made very good impressions during Dallas’ offseason training has been Tyler Biadasz. After a good rookie season, the Wisconsin product began his second year in the NFL as a strong candidate to be the starting center for the cowboy team in 2021. And it looks like he’s succeeding.
In fact, Biadasz has been one of the most prominent in both the organized team activities (OTAs) and the mini-camp. The young center has been dominant and more confident in commanding the Cowboys offensive line. Arrived in Dallas as a fourth-round pick in the 2020 Draft, Biadasz was shaping up to be Joe Looney’s backup following the sudden retirement of Travis Frederick. However, an injury to Looney led Biadasz to the start, and the then rookie clinched the job with a strong performance. He was even selected to the midseason Pro Football Focus (PFF) All-Rookie team.

Who will back up Tyler Biadasz at the center position?
Although the level that Tyler Biadasz is showing is great news, there is an underlying concern. Who will be your backup? After the plague of injuries that occurred in 2020, it is important that the Cowboys have a guarantee of support in every position, especially on the offensive line. However, the center position does not seem to have someone who can replace Biadasz in case of an eventuality.
For now, the alternative the coaching staff appears to be managing is the rookie center / guard. Matt Farniok. In fact, the Nebraska product already did some reps at center during OTAs. However, some analysts are not sure that Farniok can earn a spot in the rotation, even more so as a seventh-round pick.
Another option Dallas can handle is Connor McGovern. Though he plays primarily as a guard, McGovern may be Biadasz’s backing center. In fact, the Penn State product already played center during his college years.

Finally, the most logical alternative would be to bring back Joe Looney. After ending his contract with Dallas, Looney is still a free agent. During his five years with the cowboy team, the center was not only a guarantee endorsement, but also a positive presence for the locker room. By hiring him again, the Cowboys would add someone who knows the team well and who wouldn’t impact their limited budget.
It remains to be seen in the coming weeks what the Cowboys decide: whether to have a guarantee endorsement for Tyler Biadasz, or to take a chance with Farniok or McGovern. This option would not be the most sensible, and even less considering that a solid and healthy offensive line is the key so that Dallas can exploit its full potential in attack.
