ORAN- The Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games (OCMG) Oran-2022 has established a rich program for the launch, next Friday, of the countdown to the 19th edition of this regional sporting event, the Committee announced on Tuesday.
The celebration of this event, organized in collaboration with the various partners of the OCMG, will take place at the level of the esplanade of the Sidi M’hamed garden, not far from the avenue of the National Liberation Army (former seafront ), we said.
A rich and varied program was thus prepared for the occasion, encompassing, among other things, sports, cultural and heritage aspects, in addition to entertainment activities, the same source reports.
The start of the festivities will be given in the morning with a “treasure hunt”, an activity organized by the association “Nomades Algériens” in collaboration with the OCMG and which aims to enhance the heritage of Oran but also Algerian sports culture for the benefit of a dozen young participants who will have the chance to visit several sites of “El Bahia”.
The young participants will follow directions and funny and educational instructions which will be communicated to them as they progress as hunters, it is specified.
As for the rest of the activities, they will start from 4:00 p.m., in the presence of the local authorities and all the parties involved in the organization of the JM, according to the same source.
This ceremony, which marks the start of the stopwatch (D-365) of the Mediterranean rendezvous scheduled from June 25 to July 5, 2022, will be opened by a musical troupe. Craft exhibitions, as well as an exhibition of antique cars will also embellish the places.
On the sporting side, in addition to the basketball tournament (3×3), which will be open to the public and with the participation of 32 teams, several exhibitions will be given in the disciplines of fencing and martial arts (wrestling, karate, judo, taekwondo) in more than another table tennis tournament.

By kicking off the JM countdown, the organizers of this sporting event that Algeria will host for the second time in its history, after the 1975 edition in Algiers, hope to involve the Oran citizen in particular and the Algerian in general in the success of the sporting event, because these festivities are part of the promotion of the Games, it is still stressed from the same source.
The venue for the festivities was also well chosen by the organizers, given that the garden of Sidi M’hamed is very popular with the Oran population, especially at the start of the summer season. This should allow, according to the OCMG, citizens to get into the atmosphere of the JM.
This atmosphere should not, however, make us lose sight of the imperative to respect the preventive measures to fight against the coronavirus, insisted the organizers.
As a reminder, the 19th edition of JM was initially scheduled for last summer, but was postponed to summer 2022 due to the global health crisis marked by the spread of the coronavirus.
