US Open, Paul Barjon: “I did well”

“How do you see this first day and your 73 card?”
It was a first day full of contrast, with ups and downs. I finished my game well with a good birdie at 9, my last hole of the day. I hit some really bad shots, but also some good drives that ended their race in the bunkers or a bit in the rough. It really penalizes. But … It’s the US Open, it’s very complicated. I did pretty well. I saved the furniture when needed and made two good birdies. I hope the putter will be a little warmer tomorrow.

Paul Barjon managed to find 5 out of 14 fairways. Below average performance (48%)

Is it possible to prepare for the kind of test that a US Open demands?
It’s complicated … I had played the Canadian Open in 2017, the week just before the US Open and the course preparation was similar. But outside of this tournament it’s complicated to find the same kind of conditions.

Do you have a goal of a result in this tournament?
Not really. The idea is above all to do my best every day hoping to have a chance on Sunday afternoon. “
