Tsitsipas learned of grandmother’s death minutes before Roland Garros final: “Life is not about winning or losing” | Roland Garros

Just before his first Grand Slam final, which he lost to Djokovic in five sets, Stefanos Tsitsipas was informed. The 22-year-old tennis player is now on Instagram with a tribute. “Five minutes before I stepped onto the court, my dearly beloved grandmother lost the battle with life,” he says.

“A wise woman whose faith in life and the will to give and provide is unlike any other person I’ve ever met. It’s important to have more people like her in the world. Because people like her make you come alive.”

“They make you dream. I would like to say that no matter the day, circumstance or situation, this is completely dedicated to her. Thank you for raising my father. Without him this would not have been possible.”

Tsitsipas also puts tennis into perspective in his message. “Life isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about enjoying every moment of life, whether alone or with others. Living a meaningful life without suffering and humiliation. Raising trophies and celebrating victories is something, but not everything.”
