The press conference of Allianz Pallacanestro Trieste was held today – 07 June – at lunchtime in the “PalaRubini” sports hall in Valmaura. Talking with the journalists were the President Mario Ghiacci and the new head coach Franco Ciani. Together they illustrated some of the objectives that the Trieste-based company intends to pursue to set the next season in the best possible way, hoping to be able to compete in some European cup..
A choice based on continuity
Continuity is the key word that the President of Allianz Pallacanestro Trieste, Mario Ghiacci, used several times during today’s press conference to argue the choice of the new head coach – Franco Ciani. Ciani was Eugenio Dalmasson’s deputy and, according to what was said during today’s meeting with journalists at PalaRubini, the working method will not change compared to previous seasons.
Ghiacci stressed that the choice wants reward the excellent work done by Ciani with Dalmasson: “We are convinced that this is the best choice for us: in making the decision we have chosen to reward the person, the seriousness he has shown and the work done”. Ciani, in turn, thanked him for the nice welcome he was given, commenting: “we will have to work as best we can to turn into facts all the beautiful words that people are spending towards me”.
Trieste’s goal: to continue growing with an eye to Europe
Trieste is a square that is very keen on doing well in basketball. For next season, the Julian club aims to carve out a respectable place in the top national championship, continuing to do well, again demonstrating what good has already been done in the 2020/21 season. However, President Ghiacci also stressed that he would like to be able to compete in some European tournament: “the will is there and this time we have some real chance of being able to participate. It doesn’t just depend on us. We need the approval of the shareholders’ meeting. And anyway, before us there is also Treviso, which preceded us in the standings. Having said that, I would like to participate, for the company it would be a further moment of growth. As a company we are ready both in terms of the technical structure and on the corporate level “.
Ciani: “our thoughts are on the market and the future”
The new coach of the halberds Franco Ciani told journalists and commentators of the local wedge ball: “I am faced with extraordinary stimuli both from a human and a technical point of view”. Although it is still early to make detailed technical considerations, Ciani said that the playing philosophy of his team will be based heavily on the defensive aspect and on the quality of the individual. Furthermore, “to be able to play at a high level we will need a lot of physicality”. The starting idea is therefore to design an important and important Serie A championship.
As noted during the press conference, the staff of Pallacanestro Trieste is waiting for confirmation or not from some players, Davide Alviti in the first place: “we would very much like him to stay with us, but he can exercise the right to stay or to leave. , as per contract ”, commented President Ghiacci. Based on this and other variables, the Trieste club will then “decisively” enter the market: “we will be quick in choosing the right player profiles for us”. At the moment it is certain that also in the next season the point guard Juan Fernandez will remain in the white-red jersey, which will probably be joined by a foreign point guard.
The management then hinted that the choices will be taken into account flexibility of new players to be put under engagement, of the possibility that they can cover more roles, but also of the overall structure of the new team. The European experience will be a preferred title in the “curricula” of basketball players to be put under contract, precisely in view of the possibility of being able to compete in some European cup: “for now we would like to compete, which clearly does not mean immediately aiming for cup ”, specified Ghiacci. Now the ball passes to the shareholders’ meeting of Trieste Basketball (scheduled shortly), to vote on the best strategies to pursue in the coming months.
