Arsenal have confirmed defender David Luiz’s expiring contract will not be renewed. Rental players Dani Ceballos and Martin Ødegaard (both back to Real) and Mat Ryan (ex-Club, ex-Genk, back to Brighton) are also leaving Arsenal.
The 34-year-old Luiz already seemed to indicate last month that his story at Arsenal was over when he posted a farewell message on Instagram. Luiz, who exchanged Chelsea for Arsenal for 9.3 million euros in August 2019, played 73 games for Mikel Arteta’s troops.
Ødegaard and Ceballos both return to Real Madrid at the end of their loan spell. Odegaard, who only arrived in January, impressed in the 20 games he played for Arsenal. The Norwegian international scored two goals and also provided two assists.
Ceballos, who arrived on loan from Madrid in July 2019, saw his loan spell extended in September after an impressive campaign. Last season he totaled 40 games, 25 of which as a starting pawn. The 2 seemed to get a definitive contract, but new Real coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the 2 at his presentation.
Finally, after six months, Ryan also closes the door behind him. He kept 3 matches.
