[Top 50] # 15: Khalil Mack, father of bears

The leader of the pack

From May 15 to July 3, TDActu presents its Top 50 NFL players. To arrive at this ranking, each member of the editorial staff voted for the 50 players they would like to have on their team to start the coming season. These rankings were then compiled to form the final Top 50. The opportunity to debate, but also to present 50 profiles to those new to the NFL.

Khalil Mack – Outside Linebacker Chicago Bears

Why is he here?

7 years in the NFL, 70.5 sacks. Elected in the first All Pro team in both defensive end and linebacker, Khalil Mack always ends up getting his hands on the opposing quarterback whether he starts standing or with one hand on the ground. A rare versatility that allows him to be a threat everywhere on the field. Combine that with a mind-boggling engine, wide range of moves, and above average gameplay vision and you’ve got a pass-rusher capable of taking matches on his own. There are plenty of examples. From his debut in the Bears uniform in which he terrorized Aaron Rodgers to his performance against the Buccaneers last year in which he drove Tom Brady crazy, Khalil Mack has chained the benchmarks. Season after season, the one nicknamed Bane for his ferocity shows that he can nip the patterns of the best quarterbacks in the league in the bud.

A generational talent, Mack Daddy was showered with individual accolades until he became a member of the 2010s NFL Centennial Team. At 30, the decline has yet to begin for the pass rusher, which produces almost the same annual numbers as in his younger years.

And yet, in 7 seasons with the Raiders and the Bears, Khalil Mack has never been able to taste the intoxication of a victory in the playoffs. Little helped by fairly weak offensive squads since the start of his career, Khalil Mack has always been the captain of the Bears’ defenses, which he has systematically taken to the top of the league.

What objective in 2021?

The Mitchell Trubisky era is over in Chicago! With the arrival of an extremely promising quarterback in Illinois in the person of Justin Fields, we tell ourselves that this could be the addition that takes them to the next level in the post-season games. But it will be necessary to act quickly to take advantage of the talent of a defense which does not rejuvenate with the years. 2021 does not seem to be the year of the title but it will be necessary that the attack can finally give guarantees with why not the first victory in the playoffs of Khalil Mack.

For its part, the pass rusher will continue to pile up its ten annual sacks and will try to bring back a defense almost unchanged from last year in the top 5 of the league. Chicago doesn’t have the most question marks in defense.
