Not only Eden, Thorgan Hazard also looks back on a difficult 2020-2021. “For the first time I had to deal with a serious muscle injury. The advantage of living in the shadow of Eden is that it was little talked about. The most important thing is that I am fresh at the right time now.”
Thogan Hazard has been called up to the Red Devils for eight years, and every press conference with the now 28-year-old midfielder develops in the same way for eight years. First a few obligatory questions about himself, then at least as many questions about his much more famous brother Eden.
The time when the ex-footballer of Zulte Waregem was disturbed by that is behind us. On Tuesday in the training center of the Red Devils, he even saw the advantages of it.
“The good thing about being in the shadow of Eden is that I wasn’t talked about much when I was dealing with muscle injuries myself,” says Thorgan. “I’ve had a difficult season, personally and medically. I didn’t know how to get back to level because it was the first time I had a crack. I had to learn when I was 100 percent again and could return.”
Thorgan Hazard finally regained fitness in March after being sidelined for two months. Reclaiming a starting spot was difficult. Only in Cologne and at home in the cup against second division Kiel did he complete the ninety minutes. In that cup match he scored, after which Dortmund played the final and won against Leipzig.
“That was a great moment, because it is my first collective trophy,” says Hazard. “I may have played fewer matches, but the advantage is that I am fresh at the right time.”
After which there was of course another question about his brother Eden. A Spanish journalist asked how the Hazard family views the Spanish press.
“The Spanish press is not the easiest, we’ve seen that with other players,” Hazard said. “On the other hand, the criticism is understandable because he has not been able to show much in the last two years. I think the Spanish press knows what quality my brother has and I hope he can prove himself next season.”
