Thomas Mueller is Back: 1 Gol 1 Assist!

Duesseldorf

Thomas Mueller marks his return to the German national team after a steady two-year absence. One goal and one assist made Mueller when Die Mannschaft slaughtered Latvia.

Mueller is indeed one of the senior players that coach Joachim Loew left after a poor performance at the 2018 World Cup. Apart from Mueller, there are also Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels.

Three years later, Mueller had another chance to enter the German national team, which was being prepared for the 2020 European Cup. Understandably, Loew couldn’t look away from Mueller’s steady performance this season.

Thomas Mueller is like living again with Hansi Flick at Bayern for the last 1.5 years. He made 15 goals and 24 assists from 46 appearances this season. The statistics are clearly better than Kai Havertz, who for the last two years has been his successor in Germany.

When Havertz has not performed well with Chelsea this season, Mueller is the answer. Mueller has made his first game for Germany when he played the full 90 minutes against Denmark.

Unfortunately, Mueller did not perform well and Germany drew 1-1 on 2 June. Five days later, on Tuesday (8/6/2021) early in the morning, Mueller showed off when Germany faced Latvia in the final warm-up match ahead of the 2020 European Cup.

Mueller scored one goal in the 27th minute to give Germany a 3-0 lead while also providing an assist for Leroy Sane’s goal in the 76th minute. Germany also won 7-1 and this made Mueller happy.

Mueller at least proved that he is still useful for Germany despite being 31 years old, one of the senior players with 102 caps and 39 goals. It was Mueller’s first goal since March 2018 and his first assist since October 2017.

“The result is not what matters today – it’s more about the way we performed. We haven’t won big in a long time, so today it feels great to be on the pitch,” Mueller said on the DFB’s official website.

“We know the game against France is a lot different, but it’s definitely a convincing performance,” he continued.

Thomas Mueller et al joined in Group F which is a hell group because it is filled with defending champions Portugal, France, and Hungary.
