A baby boom week from the European Championship perspective: three football professionals who are currently competing for their nations in the European Championship have become fathers. Including two goalkeepers and a Bayern star.
While the football professionals are sweating on the pitch at the European Championships, their wives drag themselves through the hot summer days with thick balls. The heat wave has raged across Europe – and pregnant women will have especially cursed the tropical temperatures. Three of them have now been “redeemed”: Anastasiya, Alina and Sabrina. The wives of the three EM stars Matwej Safonow, Yann Sommer and Kingsley Coman have given birth to children in the past few days.
Russia’s national goalkeeper has become the father of a daughter. The Russian Football Association confirmed this in a message on Saturday evening, the time of the birth was therefore already on Friday. “We congratulated him at the team meeting. I send my best regards again and wish only the best for the baby,” commented striker Anton Sabolotny. The 22-year-old Safonov and Anastasiya Kazachyok have been married since 2020.
Yann Sommer posts a picture of the baby
The Swiss national goalkeeper Yann Sommer is also married to his Alina. They already had a daughter together. Mila was born in October 2019. Almost two years later, the sibling: Nayla.
As the Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper announced on Instagram on Saturday, his second daughter was born on June 16. Immediately after Switzerland’s 3-0 defeat in the European Championship preliminary round against Italy, Sommer left for Germany. In Cologne he wanted to help his wife with the birth – but the keeper came too late.
“Of course I would have liked to have been there in time. But the joy outweighed it and I quickly forgot that I was late. I am very proud of my wife, the last few weeks have not been easy for her when I was always gone, “he told the” Aargauer Zeitung “in an interview after the birth. The 32-year-old traveled straight back to Rome to prepare for the final group game against Turkey with his colleagues in the national team. He is now in Baku because the game will kick off at 6 p.m. today.
Kingsley Coman has become a father
Another Bundesliga star also became a father during the European Championship. Bayern attacker Kingsley Coman returned to the French national football team on Friday evening after the birth of his child, but was not yet back in the French squad for the game against Hungary on Saturday.
Coman is said to have flown to Sweden for the birth of his child. His partner Sabrina lives in Stockholm, Coman is also considered a “frequent flyer” by Bayern because he often travels back and forth between Munich and Stockholm. Meanwhile, there is no picture of the baby: Neither his partner Sabrina nor Kingsley Coman himself have posted anything on their social media channels.
It is the third child for the winger, who already has two daughters with ex-girlfriend Sephora Goignan. He’s been together with Sabrina for three years. The couple is said to have met during the 2018 World Cup.
