The most representative athletes of the present and the future of Spanish badminton gathered at the championship. The Cantabrian capital hosted the Spanish Under 19 and Under 11 Badminton Championships in which a total of 161 players participated, coming from all over the Spanish geography, with the aim of fighting for the national title in the different modalities. The competition took place throughout Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26, leaving the final disputes for Sunday.
Representing Madrid, a total of 15 players attended, 12 in the Under 19 category and 3 in the Under 11 category, all of whom had achieved their classification by ranking throughout the season.
Pablo started as seed number 1, both in the individual modality, after having had a spectacular season and shining in the Under 13 category, winning the National Master of Tordesillas a few weeks ago and winning the Madrid Championship title, as well as in men’s doubles together with his partner Martín Fenoll.
Throughout the two days Pablo was confirming his status as a favorite, prevailing both in the group stage and in the round of 16, without giving up a single set. In the semifinal played on Saturday, June 26, he faced the Balearic player Miguel Montaner, who won 15-8 / 15-8, thus achieving access to the coveted final on Sunday. The same situation was experienced in the doubles competition where, brilliantly, they agreed to the final by beating the Aragón couple 15-10 / 15-8.
In the final, Pablo Sanz faced the current number 1 in the category, the Andalusian Guillermo Muñoz in a very equal and exciting match in which he won the victory by 11-15 / 15-9 and 15-8.
As for the doubles final, the victory fell, in another tight match, on the side of the Andalusians. Guillermo Muñoz and Raúl Molina beat Pablo Sanz and Martín Fenoll by 10-15 / 15-11 / 15-12. However, they got a silver that tastes like victory, for this promising doubles pair that, for sure, will achieve important successes for the future.
