The Plásticos Durán Baloncesto Villares has until July 2 to decide if it comes out in the EBA League

The Plásticos Durán Baloncesto Villares now has to decide whether or not to accept the place in the EBA League achieved on the sports field this past weekend. And for this, the Salamanca club – and the rest of the clubs of all FEB categories – has a deadline from June 21 to July 2, as reported by the FEB to the clubs. The budget of the Autonomous First Division to the EBA League for both registration fees, tokens, travel, hotels … is much higher and now Villares Basketball will have to do numbers with its sponsors. For example, the registration fee this season has been 1,000 euros and the clubs 8,000 of bank guarantee and tokens are much more expensive.

Coach David González

David González, coach of Plásticos Durán Baloncesto Villares, who this past weekend achieved promotion to the EBA Men’s Basketball League – fourth national category – in León, analyzes the success of his team and how the young club faces the future. «I received the call from Villares last summer. I had been away from the Territorial Federation for work for several years and this option came up, I have many friends there and I go to Salamanca to work several days a week. At no time in our head was the initial objective of the project to ascend and less so this year. The initial idea was on three legs: to grow as a club, to train players to work with them in the medium and long term; and the third was to train ourselves so that if tomorrow there was an option to move up, we would have a sufficient number of local players to make the leap. We cannot take the leap and have to sign 8-10 players, at most it must be with five players from outside, and the rest local. There are players in Salamanca to face it but they needed a previous step because when they reached the senior stage they needed to play and step up. Here we have given it to you ».

González confesses that “once we had guaranteed our presence in the Four Final, it was clear to the team that we had to prepare it 100%. We didn’t care about losing the last four games of the regular league because everything was focused on the final phase and it turned out well for us ”.

Now the club, Baloncesto Villares, must study if it has financial and sporting options to accept the place in the EBA League that they have won on the field: «Right now is what the board of directors has to consider, they will have to assess what has been achieved See if we can make a squad for the EBA League with the players we have. I do believe that the leap can be made, but we have to see if the club’s growth really has to be based on a category jump so early by the first team. They always told us that you have to go step by step, with real growth. The promotion was not in the mind this year, now to sit down, talk to the sponsors and see if there is feasibility. There have already been surveys with sponsors in this regard and before finishing the promotion phase there was progress ”.

Her future

Asked about David González himself, he could continue at the helm at EBA, the coach analyzes that «it should also be valued, but there are trained people in the coaching staff. At first they count on me, but having Alejandro as an assistant this year, who was going to be an assistant for LEB Plata with Carbajosa, he already knows the category and in case I couldn’t … ».
