The ‘La Orden-Montessori Basketball Summer School’, in July at Diego Lobato

The Diego Lobato Municipal Sports Center will host during the month of July the first edition of the ‘La Orden-Montessori Basketball Summer School’, the result of the collaboration of the Huelva City Council with the Montessori School of the capital, and from which 50 boys and girls of the capital with ages between 5 and 16 years.

In this regard, the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Sports, María Teresa Flores, wanted to highlight the “clear commitment of the City Council for the promotion of sports and healthy activities during the summer for minors, among which today we highlight this new Summer School of Basketball, which will allow participants, in addition to having fun during your school holidays, learn the techniques and tactics of this sport, counting on the modern facilities of the Diego Lobato ”.

In this sense, María Teresa Flores has indicated that “for the Consistory it is essential to promote grassroots sport in the city and, therefore, we have had no doubt in collaborating with the Montessori School for the implementation of this initiative, putting for this at your disposal the facilities of the Diego Lobato, municipal sports center that has two tracks to learn and practice this sport”.

Thus, it should be remembered that the current government team undertook a profound remodeling of the Diego Lobato municipal sports center last year, rehabilitating, modernizing, making accessible and adding value to these important sports facilities in the neighborhood of La Orden, one of the largest sports centers in the province.

For his part, as indicated by the coordinator of this Basketball Summer School, Nino Gemio, “Classes will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. this school being open to the participation of both children who know how to play basketball and who have never practiced this sport, since it is a mainly recreational school, compared to other campuses where technification prevails ”.

The objective is that this Summer School, which will have different groups and levels, can be an incentive for all participants, including minors who are part of city clubs or sports schools that the City Council has been promoting during this year on the sports courts of the different neighborhoods.

On the other hand, the basketball coach of the Montessori School, Pablo Hitos, also wanted to value in a very positive way “that this school can serve as a resource for integration and conciliation for Huelva families, since during the time in which it will be developed the school parents will be able to count on a safe space, in which their children will be cared for and enjoying their hobby with other children ”.

On the other hand, for the City Council This Basketball Summer School constitutes a fundamental educational tool, Since, together with the sports sessions, the objective is to work cross-sectionally with the children in the acquisition of values and respect for diversity, fostering camaraderie and a team feeling among the participants.
