The female Boca, one step away from Bianchi’s record

The Boca from Carlos Bianchi it marked an era in the history of Argentine soccer. The Viceroy took the reins of the squad in mid-1998 and in his first experience in the bank he obtained the Apertura in an inviting way. Out of 19 games, he won 13 and drew six. And he would only have his first fall as coach of the club in the middle of the following year, after falling 4-0 against Independent by the 17th date of the Clausura, the day that Boca became two-time champion in Avellaneda.

Boca del Apertura 98, undefeated champion with Bianchi.

That historic streak from the beginning of the Bianchi cycle, added to another five games without defeats under the command of Carlos García Cambón (led the Xeneize before the arrival of the Viceroy), gave rise to the famous record of 40 games without losses (by local competences) that no other Argentine team could achieve. At least for the moment…

This Tuesday, Boca’s women’s soccer team drew 1-1 against San Lorenzo at Casa Amarilla and accumulated its thirty-ninth game without knowing defeat. The set of the Cristian Meolini-Esteban Pizzi duo not only leads the Zone A of the positions (the escort is precisely the Cyclone, with two points less), but is also one step away from matching the impressive mark of the Viceroy. For that you must add at least one point in your visit to Deportivo Español, next weekend.

The Boca of the years 98 and 99 built their spectacular undefeated based on 30 wins and ten draws. From 4-2 in front of Hurricane, on May 5, 1998, until June 2, 99, in a 1-0 victory against Rosario Central. Thus, he broke the record of Racing (39 games between 1966 and 1967) and registered -logically- the best mark in the history of Boca, which was 26 games unbeaten between 1943 and 1944.

In 2021, Boca became champion by beating River 7-0 in the final (Federico Imas).

The Gladiators, on the other hand, extended much more in time because of the stoppage due to the pandemic. The last time they were defeated was on April 24, 2019, more than two years ago, when they lost 2-1 at home to the UAI Urquiza. From there, they lined up 39 games without falls, with 34 wins and five draws. In the middle they passed the 2018/2019 First Division Championship (ten games); the 2019/2020 Championship (15); the 2020 Transition Tournament (champions, with seven straight victories and zero goal); and the first seven dates of the current Opening.

Another shocking fact is that the girls scored 187 goals! and they converted nothing more than 15. The Boca de Bianchi? 89 in favor and 26 against. Florencia Quiñones, Yamila Rodríguez, Carolina Troncoso and Camila Gómez Ares are just some of the club’s footballers who participated in the last four seasons. The history of Boca already has a place reserved for them …
