The Mercapinturas Almería municipal sports school takes care, in collaboration with the Municipal Sports Board, of the badminton quarry and thanks to this work with the quarry excellent results emerge every year. This time it has been in the Andalusian Championship under 13 and under 17, where the Almeria club achieved nine medals distributed between 3 golds, 2 silver and 4 bronzes. The competition was held last weekend in the Huelva town of Bonares where the EDM Mercapinturas Almería was represented by nine players.

The competition began on Saturday, June 5, with the first rounds of singles where the under 13s competed in group format and the under 17s did so by direct elimination. After these first matches, Rosana García and Asier Torres got into the box and Ángel Alonso had to say goodbye to the individual competition to focus on doubles. Regarding the under 17s, only Macarena Fernández solved the first rounds, leaving Ángel Fernández, Ángel Carmona, Javier Basilio Calatrava, María Jurado and Marcos Montoya eliminated, so their efforts focused on the doubles modality.

Thus, in the round of the quarterfinals there was a full Almeria with the victories of Rosana, Asier and Macarena, which meant securing three medals for Sunday’s day. Already in the semifinals, Asier achieved the bronze by falling in three even sets against Pedro Torre de Granada, while Rosana García and Macarena Fernández got the pass to the final in excellent matches decided in the tiebreaker against Martina Jiménez from Málaga and Ángela Jiménez from Huelva . Finally, Macarena Fernández put the finishing touch by winning the final 2 to 0 against Laura Anglada de Huelva and Rosana, despite losing the final against Sandra Pastor de Arjonilla by 0 to 2, she still had strength for the doubles modality

They have shown the good work they do with the quarry ”.

For his part, the president of the CDM Mercapinturas, Fernando Carrillo, highlights that “it has been a great Andalusian Championship with several medals in different modalities with special merit for 12-year-old Rosana, who debuted in an Andalusian Championship and won a gold and one silver, and Macarena Fernández, who despite being 14 years old wins the championship against older rivals and who also train at a performance center in Huelva (CAETD) so she continues to knock on the doors of the Spanish team ”.
