The Toronto Blue Jays saw the Chicago White Sox score five runs in the eighth inning and win 6-1 Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The only Canadian lineup in major league baseball had forged a slim 1-0 lead after six engagements. In their second round at bat, Jonathan Davis hit a sacrifice ball that allowed Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to take the plate.
The White Sox tied the game in the seventh inning, when Andrew Vaughn hit a solo homerun. As soon as they returned to attack, the Illinois team took advantage of the generosity of pitchers Trent Thornton (1-2) and Carl Edwards Jr. to take off. It was the first of the two gunners who suffered defeat.
The relievers therefore spoiled an excellent start for Robbie Ray. The 29-year-old southpaw has allowed one run on five hits in six and one-third innings. He also struck out 13 opponents.
For its part, the victory went to the record of Garrett Crochet (2-2).
The Jays and the Sox will reconnect on Wednesday night, for the second game of a three-game series presented in Chicago.
